Call 2024

UGA Library Research Grants

Deadline for grant submission : December 20th 2023, 12 pm

Each year, the Libraries (of Law, Literature, Medicine, Pharmacy and the Sciences) at University Grenoble Alpes (UGA) offer short‐term Library Research Grants to promote scholarly use of the Library’s special collections. Amongst the most noteworthy, UGA’s special collections include the ones in Physics, Italian Studies, Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Earth and Life Sciences (OSUG) and Mathematics (Institut Fourier), as well as a unique collection on apartheid and South-African studies (le Fonds Alvarez-Péreyre).

The grant is 1,000 euros per week (for a residency of up to five weeks), which covers all research‐related costs as well as transportation and accommodation costs. Applications to use unique Library materials in the context of a specific research project will be considered as part of these general grants. There is a window of several months to apply each year.

As of October 2023, the 2024 UGA Library Research Grants application is open and ready to receive submissions. The deadline to apply is noon on December 20th, 2023. Grants are tenable from March 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025.

Two grants of up to 5000 euros maximum each will therefore be awarded every year, one to a research scholar at any stage of his/her career (from master’s, doctoral or postdoctoral students to tenured academics) working in the field of the sciences and another for a research scholar working in the field of the humanities or social sciences.

At least one grant will be awarded to a research scholar affiliated to a foreign university.
Scholars registered in a French university other than UGA may also apply.

In addition to the grant itself, the university will also provide :
  • A private working space in the Library
  • Assistance from a member of the Library staff who will help and guide the research scholar during the full length of his/her stay
The grant application should include in French or English :
  • A cover letter
  • A curriculum vitae
  • A research project (no more than 5 pages long) explaining how the Libraries’ resources, funds or special collections will be used during the stay
  • Two letters of recommendation
