Virtual encyclopedia of antique watchmaking knowledge
The lack of documentary resources on antique clocks (pendulum clocks, building clocks, etc.) and the lack of training courses on these subjects mean that there is a major risk of losing the watchmaking know-how that has made France famous the world over.
To remedy this, a computer database with 3D software and virtual reality elements, to be known as Chronospédia, is currently being created. It will be created in collaboration with major French and European museums, and will include both generic mechanisms and the classification of historic clocks.
Appropriate training courses will be provided for museum curators, experienced watchmakers, apprentices and even the general public.
