Exhibition
April 2, 2026 – May 11, 2026Saint-Martin-d'Hères - University Campus
In 2026, the University Center for French Studies (CUEF) at the University of Grenoble Alpes celebrates 130 years of history, educational innovation, and international influence. To mark the occasion, an exhibition will be on display at the University Library of Law and Humanities at the University of Grenoble Alpes from April 2 to May 11.
Over a century of commitment to French as a foreign language and international hospitality
As a pioneering center for French as a Foreign Language (FLE) in France, the CUEF has trained generations of learners from all five continents. A true educational laboratory, it has helped advance FLE teaching practices and cement Grenoble’s place in the history of the global dissemination of the French language.
This exhibition celebrates 130 years of commitment to international outreach, educational innovation, and exploration of the region—values that continue to drive the CUEF today.
A journey through time to the heart of Grenoble’s university history
The exhibition traces the history of the CUEF from its origins in 1896, with the creation of the Comité de patronage des étudiants étrangers (CPEE), to its current state. Through a wealth of often-overlooked archival materials, historical documents, photographs, artifacts, and educational resources, it reveals a journey deeply rooted in Grenoble’s heritage.
Whether you’re a student, a member of the university staff, a CUEF alumnus or alumna, a history enthusiast, or simply curious to get a behind-the-scenes look at teaching French to international audiences, this exhibition offers a rare opportunity to delve into over a century of archives.
We look forward to seeing many of you there to share in this celebration and bring to life the spirit of openness that has driven the CUEF since 1896!
