UGA lecturers use Compilatio software to check submitted documents, dissertations and reports. This software detects similarities between the analyzed document and other comparison documents. The comparison documents come from the Internet, as well as from previously analyzed briefs and reports. The software provides a report that identifies "similar" passages and checks that sources are cited correctly.
Doctoral students and researchers: protect yourself by disseminating your work
Making your work as widely accessible as possible protects you from plagiarism. This approach is part of the open access movement, which aims to share research results, published or unpublished, free of charge, in order to advance science and promote direct scientific communication without financial barriers. You can deposit your work on open archive platforms such as HAL or TEL (for theses).
"The more a text is referenced and visible on the Net, the more difficult it is to plagiarize. Plagiarism detection software bases its analysis on documents available online on open-access sites. What's more, the date of deposit in an open archive serves as proof of authorship."
Leroux, Laurence, Serres, Alexandre. "Plagiarism". In UEB (European University of Brittany). Form@doct. Rennes: UEB, September 2012 (last maj November 30, 2017).
React to plagiarism!
Inform your thesis supervisor or laboratory director so that they can take charge of the procedure.
For doctoral students: you can contact the plagiarist by e-mail, requesting immediate withdrawal of the plagiarized material and reminding them of the consequences of plagiarism ( standard letters exist).
