The basics of quantum physics explained simply

Conference Scientific and technical culture
November 18, 2025Saint-Martin-d'Hères - University campus

The quantum world is attractive, frightening and exciting all at once. It has been the source of numerous discoveries for decades, and is gradually making its way into the world of existing and potential applications. But what is quantum physics? Some objects have properties that lie in quantum superpositions... These objects should no longer be seen solely as material objects, but rather as waves, identical to those observed when throwing a pebble into a body of water. But what are these "objects"? How can they be in one state and another at the same time? Is this "object" nowhere or everywhere at once? Here are a few quantum physics concepts that we'll be talking about without mathematical equations!

Lecture as part of the Ateliers de Science infuse, by Franck Balestro, Professor of Physics at Grenoble Alpes University, coordinator of the QuanTEdu-France national training program, deputy director of the QuantAlps quantum science and technology research federation, deputy director of the Maison du Quantique Alpes.
