Uncertainty, when you hold us...
It's everywhere, it worries, it fascinates. At a time when risk is proscribed and the precautionary principle is brandished, how do we deal with it as individuals and in our professional contexts?
And what if we could draw inspiration from the experience of those who are closest to it?
Men and women who are mountaineers, sailors, rescue workers, soldiers and extreme explorers all have in common the paradox of having to make reliable decisions in situations of great uncertainty. They develop skills and know-how that can be applied in many contexts marked by variability and instability.
Florence Roche presents the book L'aventure, réenchanter l'incertitudepublished on April 10, 2025, which brings together the views of researchers in a variety of disciplines, from the human and social sciences to medicine, and those who live with uncertainty in its broadest sense. They explore the different facets of individual and collective adventure: commitment, action, fear, courage, freedom, to fundamentally question the meaning of existence and our relationship with the world. Let's meet them and better understand uncertainty, and why not, reconcile ourselves with it.
